It's a very nicely decorated place on the pier. The staff is very pleasant. They have a bar, one hibachi table, a sushi bar, several tables and booths. This review is only on sushi because that's all I wanted. The tuna wasn't fresh but most of the times it a hit and miss. Fresh tuna looks red and it melts in your mouth. However, the tuna I got was just chewy and dark in color. I got the spicy tuna roll, the hong roll, and the dragon roll. The best one out of the three was the hong roll. The rest were just mediocre. They taste blend and nothing really stand out to the taste buds. For example, the spicy tuna wasn't spicy at all. It just taste like tuna with rice. A good spicy tuna roll will have a mild spicy taste with a hint of tuna. This review is only on the sushi so they might have really good entrée. This place is worth trying if you are near by. I have really high expectations for sushi so this place is ok. It's worth a try....you might like it.

I'm a transplanted New Yorker living in St. Pete & was visiting friends on the island. The sushi here blew me away. I have not yet found anything comparable in Tampa Bay. Granted, most of the places I have been are in St Pete Beach or St Petersburg. There are a couple that are ok. This place is utterly epic. Other suggestions welcome.

Food was delicious. The only complaint is the service was a bit slow but well worth the wait.

great for that Sushi fix.... I had some red snapper that was 45 minutes off the boat... it is now at the North end of Anna Maria island..near the Galati's Marina.. they have tempen yaki... the cooking at the table thing that families should enjoy... it has great views and plenty of room. The sushi chefs were great... enjoyed them sitting at the Sushi bar. Has a fully stocked bar as well.

Excellent! Hubby and I had the following dishes: shrimp tempera, salad and, shrimp and salmon teriyaki and draft Kirin Ichiban. The tempera was perfectly coated and served piping hot. Three pieces of shrimp accompanied several pieces of green bean and squash. Excellent. The salads were amazing! The ginger dressing was the highlight but the addition of small cubed granny apple pieces made the salad. Both entrees of teriyaki were accompanied by leek and carrot. Yum. Choice of fried or steamed rice. My salmon was one of the best I have ever tasted. The fish was crispy on the outside and cooked to perfection on the inside. Our server Judson was attentive and spot on with his service. We arrived on a Saturday night at 5:30th without a reservation. In the future I will make a reservation as the restaurant filled up quite quickly. There were several children in the restaurant which really isn't a place for kids but at such an early hour it was ok. We will definitely be back!

What a fabulous surprise, I did not know they had moved to North AMI! Beautiful restaurant, loved the bar! My friend visited and we spent weekend on island, great end to a wonderful weekend! Ocean Star a much needed restaurant for AMI! We ordered a few different items and everything was amazing.

Happened upon Ocean Star on a drive around the island. We weren't looking to eat yet but decided to check it out in case we wanted to come back later. Turns out it was just their third week being open for weekend lunch and we were the only people in the place. We sat at the bar for a couple of cocktails and had a delightful time chatting with the bartender (Dena I believe). She shared all the menus with us - they have lunch specials, a great sushi menu plus hibachi. We didn't make it back to eat on this trip but will definitely make the effort next time!

Great atmosphere outside on the deck so eat outside if you can. I had a Tampa bay breeze drink which was delicious. We had edamame as an appetizer and I had yaki sobi with beef. Not as good as out old favorite place Tokyo sushi in Kissimmee but delicious all the same. I found the beef to be somewhat tough but otherwise it was good. My husband says the sushi is good. Go if you can. It's a bit pricy though.

The family-owned Ocean Star restaurant has offered fresh delicious sushi for years in Holmes Beach on Anna Maria Island (which is not well-known for exotic cuisine!). With the opening of Island Ocean Star in Galati's Marina at the north end Japanese food fans have a true pilgrimage destination. It earns 5-Stars for its food, bar, service and atmosphere. As a bonus, this is, hands-down, the most stylish, elegant, comfortable and atmospheric restaurant on the island with a spacious dining room and beautiful water views. Mon and his brother Ben still serve up the freshest sushi and sashimi anywhere. Mon's wife Chi (and her dad!) help in the kitchen and behind the scenes so the cooked food is equally delicious (don't miss their homemade gyoza). As usual Mrs. Nibbler and I gorged ourselves with sushi, sashimi, handrolls, salads, saki and draft Ichiban beer and red bean ice cream for a very fair cost of $100, plus tip. Our friends (who don't do sushi) were a bit stunned when they accidentally picked up our bill...but quite happy when their's only came to $62, for perfectly grilled fresh salmon, lemongrass mussels, crab salads with ginger dressing, an appetizer and homemade vanilla ice cream (that was amazing). Chesea gave us charming and attentive service with a wait staff that never had us waiting for drinks or any portion of our meal. Great food, beautiful decor, a full bar, beautiful views and friendly people at the tip of the island. Enjoy it off-season before the snowbirds overrun the place!

Beautiful view. Slow service and food was mediocre. Way overpriced. $14 kids meal and they left hungry. Very disappointed.

Great location, atmosphere and view. Service is top shelf and everything was delicious. I did break my rule of not ordering steak at a seafood house and while it was not bad it was definitely not Steakhouse quality. If you have a chance take some time and give them a try. It is well worth it.

Really impressed! The shrimp dumpling appetizer was absolutely delicious and all the seafood was very fresh. We got the Bradenton Roll and the VIP Roll, both very good. The Chicken Teryaki was lackluster, but the vegetables on the side were wonderful. Great service and view!

Probably the best sushi I've had in Florida. Went last night and my experience was great from the moment I entered. The restaurant is situated on a pier and love the smell of the sea, and even though it is a relatively new restaurant the staff seemed well trained and very pleasant. The bar was also fully stocked. I had a couple martinis. Sushi was very fresh and the chefs were able to customize my order.

The location... Perfect... the food... Much to be desired! Overlooks beautiful yachts sitting along the AMI Marina and it has a nice atmosphere overall. The food; you cannot order hibachi unless you're sitting at the tappanyaki grill. The portions are definitely on the small side. My fiancé prefers no peas or carrots in her fried rice, but they would not accommodate. The rice was pre-maid and despite the restaurant being at half capacity, they said they didn't have space on the flat top to accommodate. The sushi; the flavor and freshness were good... definetly not great , but once again the portions small. Imagine a typical roll before it's cut, reduce the length by 1/3rd (conservative) and cut it into six pieces. The diameter, no larger than the size of a quarter. After two specialty rolls and a bit of crab sashimi, I was left hungry and unsatisfied. If you want to enjoy a drink over-looking the marina, I'd encourage you to go. Otherwise don't waste your time, or money.

Outstanding service! Indoor seating, including hibachi tables. Outdoor deck has heaters and window coverings, to block the cooler night air. Clear soup and sushi rolls were great. So was the key lime coconut cake. Next time, we want to try out the hibachi tables!

Everything about this place was quite superior, the greeting by the manager/owner, the sushi, the tempura and the drinks. I have not one single complaint. It is odd to go outside for the restrooms...now that is a first, but I actually like getting the restrooms away from the dining area. The views were quite nice at the marina but only as a backdrop. There is outside dining as well and looks fine in every way. The staff, perfect. SO WHY ONLY THREE STARS? One word: PRICE. For a new restaurant to go for your lungs at the beginning of their life is off-putting and I DON't mean by just a little. To me the sushi and sashimi were easily double the typical charges around here and perhaps triple. S You need reservations for hibachi table. Some would say you get what you pay for and here you pay a lot. I will go back once in a while, but surely not on a regular basis. Watch out for radar cops approaching this restaurant...they are at the end of the street, shooting right at you. A moving violation would not help your digestion. They would make more from me over time if they were reasonable. Can they stay in business at these prices? Doubtful.
